Fire significantly damages landmark Shore restaurant

A multi-alarm blaze significantly damaged a generations-old restaurant in Ocean County Wednesday.
The fire sparked mid-morning at Caffrey’s Tavern on Route 9 in Lacey Township.
Firefighters from throughout Ocean County responded to the scene and remain there as of early afternoon. The fire was declared under control around 1 p.m.
Officials say arriving firefighters saw smoke billowing from the roof, but no confirmed information was immediately available regarding where the blaze sparked or the cause.
Route 9 remains closed as of 1 p.m.
No injuries have been reported.
