Enterprise relocates to busy intersection in Manayunk

The Enterprise Rent-A-Car station, formerly located on the 500 block of Umbria Street in Roxborough, has moved to a new high-traffic spot at the intersection of Leverington Avenue and Umbria Street in Manayunk.

Regional Vice President James Callaham says the move was all about visibility.

“We had tons of customers coming in to our old site telling us they never knew we were there,” said Callaham. “So, for a number of years, we’ve been looking for a place that would allow us to attract more customers.”

After more than 10 years serving the neighborhoods of Roxborough and Manayunk from a neighborhood strip mall, the company found a new spot on Leverington Avenue that it couldn’t pass up.

“It has outstanding visibility right at that intersection,” Callaham explained. “It’s a free standing location, there’s no one else in that lot, it’s right by a traffic light and there’s a bus stop nearby.”

In December, the company’s lawyer presented the proposed development plan to the Manayunk Neighborhood Council.

The group gave the green light to the store’s six-foot-high fence and 11 designated parking spaces, but strongly opposed the proposal for a 15-foot-high free standing sign, citing concerns that the sign was “ugly” and unnecessary.

The neighbors quickly won that battle when the company’s lawyer decided to drop the sign from the proposal in respect for their concerns.

The new office officially opened this week and residents are already starting to take notice. Many commuters glanced at the new business while waiting at the light on Leverington Avenue during Thursday’s rush hour.

Callahan says the high traffic location will help to make the company’s strong presence in the neighborhood even stronger.

“We look forward to growing our business and being a great neighbor to Manayunk and Roxborough,” Callaham said.

The office is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
