DRPA bridge toll, PATCO hikes go into effect today

Make sure you’ve got extra pocket change, because hikes on PATCO fares and bridge tolls take effect today, just in time for your weekend trip to the Shore.

The Delaware River Port Authority announced the decision late last year in part to generate more revenue for a handful of projects.

Starting today, crossing the DRPA bridges will cost your $5. Senior citizens pay half and large vehicle drivers will pay per axle up to $45.

Some of the projects over the next five to seven year that will receive additional toll funding include $30 million worth of work on the Ben Franklin Bridge and $216 million on the Walt Whitman Bridge.
