Donor program launched in Dover

Effort to increase organ donors launched in Dover.
The Delaware Healthcare Association along with the Gift of Life Donor Program started its 2012 donor campaign today to coincide with April as National Donate Life Month.  The goal of this year’s effort is to increase the number of registered organ donors in Delaware by 28,000.  The group says there are currently 600 people on a waiting list for an organ transplant in Delaware.  Despite that, only 46% of Delaware’s licensed drivers or state ID card holders are registered donors.  The Gift of Life program wants to increase that rate to 50% by the end of the year.
