DelDot crews clean up after winter storm surge

The sun was out this afternoon as DelDot crews removed sand and assessed flooded roads following yesterday’s winter storm surge.

The worst of the storm has passed through the state and the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center reported no major property damage or requests for rescues.

The main concern now is opening roadways back up to residents. According to DelDot, more than a dozen roads remain closed until the water recedes and crews can assess any damage that flooding may have caused.

Crews were able to get the southbound lane of Route 1 between Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach back up and running. The additional lanes may not open until Friday.
