Delaware woman accused of trying to sell baby

Police say 33-year-old Bridget Wismer tried to sell her newborn son to a Philadelphia man for $15,000.

New Castle County Police have been investigating the case since early September when they got a tip from a family member that Wismer was trying to sell her baby.  The state Division of Family Services was conducting a similar investigation at the same time.  Despite numerous interviews, investigators were unable to confirm the allegations.

Detectives got a break on September 29th after getting information about the potential buyer.  Philadelphia Poliice searched 54-year-old John Gavaghan’s home on Old Newtown Road in Philadelphia and recovered evidence they say links him to the crime.

Wismer and Gavaghan were both arrested and charged with Dealing in Children and Second Degree Conspiracy.  Both have been released after posting bond.
