Delaware unemployment down to 7%

The number of unemployed Delawareans is at the lowest point it’s been since 2008.

The state’s unemployment rate for January stands at seven percent, down from a revised 7.2% in December. The Delaware Department of Labor’s latest numbers show there were 31,000 unemployed Delawareans in January.

Local area unemployment numbers, which are not seasonally adjusted, are hovering around the same level as in December.  Wilmington’s unemployment rate is the highest in the state at 10.7%.  New Castle County’s rate mirrors the state unemployment rate at seven percent.  Kent County’s rate is a little higher at 7.6%, while Sussex County is even higher at 8.1%.

The state’s unemployment rate is still well below the national average which stands at 8.3% as of January.
