Delaware State Trooper shot, suspect killed

A Delaware State Trooper has been shot during an exchange of gunfire after chasing a suspect in Kent County.

Police say the trooper is in stable condition at a hospital. The gunfire broke out Wednesday just before 7 a.m. near West Birdie and Bayhill lanes in the Magnolia area.

Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack says the trooper was chasing a suspect when the suspect stopped the vehicle and began firing.

South State Street was closed a Birdie Lane between Dover and Magnolia was closed for an investigation more than an hour after the shooting. It appeared the rear window of the suspect’s vehicle had been shot out.
