One man is dead following a police chase north of Wilmington Wednesday afternoon.

New Castle County Police were pursuing the man as part of a separate investigation when his vehicle crashed in the area of Philadelphia Pike and Washington Street extension. Police say the chase then continued on foot. When officers caught up to the suspect, they say he continued to fight officers.

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, police said, “A confrontation ensued resulting in the suspect being shot and killed by police.” The officers involved were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Police say the investigation is still active and they plan to provide more details as it becomes available.

It’s the second suspect shot and killed by New Castle County Police in recent weeks. On March 29, 28-year-old Leroy Brown was shot and killed at the Coachman’s Manor apartments off Del. 9. Two hours before the altercation at the apartment complex, Brown was shot by a Philadelphia Police officer. In Delaware, Brown rammed a police cruiser and another vehicle, then tried to run over the officer who fired the fatal shots.
