Delaware non-profit celebrates young women on the move
The Great Taste Design Foundation will host its first Girls Empowerment Celebration on Saturday. The goal is to raise money for its scholarship fund and promote unity among girls.
“Women tend to be competitive with each other and sometimes bring each other down. When we unite, we go farther,” said founder Dee Yancey-Harris.
The event is right on time as students across the state may be in need of a little encouragement before the school year begins. House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst, Miss Delaware Chelsea Bruce and City Councilwoman-at-Large, Rysheema Dixon will all be there to inspire the audience. Dixon who’s set to be honored with a Trailblazer Award for her community work plans to remind women that they’re all uniquely valuable.
“Your skills and talent are unique and the world is ready for you to unleash,” Dixon said.
The non-profit organization which formed in 2016 is dedicated to helping women and girls who positively impact their communities. One way is through its scholarship fund that highlights young ladies excelling in a number of areas from the arts to philanthropy as well as academically.
Saturday’s event will take place at Middletown High School. It will feature plenty of entertainment, a silent auction, along with middle and high school scholarship winners. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
