Delaware man charged with beating death of ex-girlfriend

A man faces murder charges in the death of his ex-girlfriend, who police say was viciously attacked and discovered lying on a sidewalk in Wilmington.

37-year-old Simone Robinson of Wilmington died at Christiana Hospital, one day after she was severely beaten and found unresponsive near 25th Street and Thatcher Street.  Her former boyfriend, 31-year-old Gregory Griffin of Bear, was arrested in Elkton, Maryland at the home of a relative later Sunday night.

Griffin has been extradited to Delaware to face charges of murder and endangering the welfare of a child.  Police say the victim’s children witnessed at least a portion of the assault, which left her with head injuries that were ultimately fatal.

Griffin is being held at Wilmington’s Howard Young Prison without bail.
