Delaware hospital expansion officially topped-off

The expansion of Christiana Care’s Wilmington Hospital has reached its highest peak.

Hospital leaders celebrated the milestone in the construction process with a “topping off” ceremony on Friday.  The workers added their signatures to a steel beam that was placed at the highest point of the new building at Wilmington Hospital.

The construction work is currently on schedule to be finished in 2014.  Once it’s all done, the Wilmington Hospital campus will have 120 new patient beds and a new Intensive Care Unit.  There will be a new nine-story surgical tower, and the Emergency Department will double in size.  The work also includes the addition of a 61,000-square-foot medical office building, and a newly-redesigned front entrance and Jefferson Street approach to improve access to the campus.
