Delaware celebrates AmeriCorps Week and promotes volunteerism

A week of activities celebrating the accomplishments of AmeriCorps in Delaware begins today.

AmeriCorps began in 1994 to train and encourage people to serve their communities.  Senator Tom Carper will join Connecting Generations Youth Ambassadors today in a school clean-up program at Dover’s Fairview Elementary School.  Other events this week will support the Ministry of Caring, Habitat for Humanity, the Food Bank of Delaware and Emergency Services Corps.  AmeriCorps has 110 members, alumni, grantees and program partners in the First State.  Former President Bill Clinton created the program to encourage individuals to work in their area of interest while meeting community needs in social services, education, emergency services or the environment.  For more information on AmeriCorp Week in Delaware, call 302-255-9745.
