Cupcake and beer pairing in Manayunk adds to Philly Beer Week fun

If there was ever a time to try a cupcake with a craft beer, now just might be the time.

Tomorrow, Lucky’s Last Chance in Manayunk will host its cupcake and beer pairing event in honor of Philly Beer Week.

The event, which sold out in under 30 minutes last year, will feature flights of Southern Tier Brewing Co. beers which will be paired with cupcakes from Sweet Elizabeth’s.

Chris Barnes, managing partner of Lucky’s Last Chance, says the idea spawned from a joke that the cupcakes from Sweet Elizabeth’s paired great with a chocolate stout.

“Five minutes later we were knocking on their door,” said Barnes. “It’s a great way to introduce people to some interesting styles of beer. Plus, who doesn’t love cupcakes?”

Elizabeth Paradiso, owner of Sweet Elizabeth’s, says she first thought of the pairing idea when trying to think of a unique spin on Father’s Day cupcakes.

“Beer and bacon were obviously the first to come to mind,” said Paradiso. “Since then, we’ve developed some really great recipes using a nice variety of beers that appeal to everyone.”

Paradiso says it’s all about profiling the favors of the beer and cupcakes.

“A really good beer in your cupcake can add a depth of flavor and introduce some unique flavors that wake up your senses,” said Paradiso.

If you’re interested in trying it out, head to Manayunk’s Lucky’s Last Changce on Tuesday, June 4. The event will run from 8 to 10 p.m. Individual flights will be available for $16 and include four mini cupcakes and four mini beers.
