Councilwoman Bass ‘saddened’ by death of Arlen Specter

While her eighth councilmanic district does not extent to East Falls, the Northwest Philadelphia neighborhood that the late U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter called home, City Councilwoman Cindy Bass was nonetheless among city officials who mourned his loss.

In a statement issued Monday afternoon, Bass wrote, “I am saddened by the loss of Sen. Arlen Specter. [He] was a true champion for Philadelphia and consistently fought hard in Washington for the needs of its citizens.

“Having had the opportunity to interact with Senator Specter on many occasions, I can say that he was always kind and gracious, and was a real man of the people,” she continued. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
