Councilman fundraiser trades rubber chicken for pigskin

Philadelphia City Councilman Mark Squilla is having an NFL draft party as a campaign fundraiser to differentiate his event from traditional fundraising dinners — often called the rubber chicken circuit because of the unappetizing menu.

“I think it’s kind of an exciting, give people the opportunity to go out for a special reason and plus raise a couple of dollars for the campaign.”

Squilla says he hopes his unique football-themed event will help him stand out among other politicians if donors have several options to choose from.

The councilman, recently elected to a four-year term, says he hopes to make it an annual event.
