Cost for PECO customers up 21.5% as of Monday

That small window of reprieve between energy bills — after the air conditioner, but before the heat — you know the one. That couple of months Philadelphians can skirt by without an astronomical bill? Well it just got a little smaller.

According to Philly.com PECO prices are going to increase 21.5 percent on Mon., Oct. 1.

Those who switched to competing suppliers won’t be affected by the change, but for he rest of the 1.6 million area customers the increase will definitely be felt come month’s end.

Philly.com reports that “the increase from 8.64 cents per kilowatt hour to 10.5 cents amounts to $13.95 a month for a customer using 750 kilowatt hours (kWh).” And that “the increase was mostly caused by the utility’s undercollection of revenue in the second quarter of this year.”

PECO representatives project that the price will return below 9 cents on Jan. 1.
