Corbett’s health and insurance cabinet nominees get committee approval

Two more of Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett’s cabinet nominees have gained approval from their respective committees. The Public Health and Welfare and Banking and Insurance committees unanimously endorsed Corbett’s suggestions for state health secretary and state insurance commissioner, the Associated Press reports.

Dr. Eli Avila, nominated state health secretary, was a county public health official in New York. Proposed Insurance Commissioner Michael Consedine is a Harrisburg lawyer who worked for the Insurance Department under former Gov. Tom Rigde.

    Both still require Senate approval.
