Controlled chaos, behind the scenes setting up Philadelphia Flower Show


Despite the recent spate of frigid weather, it’s almost spring. And that means the Philadelphia Flower Show is about to fill the Pennsylvania Convention Center with ornate horticultural displays, hopeful florists looking to win a blue ribbon, and plenty of visitors.

But what goes into setting up such a massive production, especially when you’re showing off something as delicate as a flower? How do workers plan for fluctuating weather conditions? And where on Earth does all that soil come from?

WHYY’s Jennifer Lynn stopped by the convention center earlier this week to get a look at what goes into making the Flower Show bloom.
