The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a Trenton man who was tossed from his personal watercraft while riding with a friend in the Delaware River.

Authorities say 26-year-old Jesus Diaz Melendez and another man were on the watercraft when it went aground near the Trenton boat ramp shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday. The other man was soon rescued by crew members aboard a boat that happened to be in the area, but Melendez could not be found.

Rescue crews then conducted an extensive search that ended shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. The decision to suspend the search was announced late Sunday morning.

The name of the man riding with Melendez has not been disclosed. Authorities have not said if he was injured in the accident.
