DE National Guard Troops Deploy

Many tears were shed inside a hangar on New Castle County’s Air Base, as families said goodbye to about 50 soldiers of the Delaware Army National Guard’s 126th Aviation Regiment.

The soldiers will serve 10 months in Afghanistan, providing medical evacuations for troops, allies as well as Afghan civilians.

Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Governor Jack Markell and Senator Chris Coons were on hand at today’s send off.

Senator Coons wishes the troops well as they deploy on what he describes as a “mission of mercy.”

“I am humbled by their willingness to serve. And I hope everybody who’s watching will hold them in their prayers and will think about what they might be able to do to help encourage and support the families of our own men and women who are serving overseas today,” said Sen. Coons.
