Chester students say classes canceled due to lack of certified teachers

Seniors at Chester’s Science and Discovery High School will rally today outside Sen. Dominici Pileggi’s office. They’ll be joined by ACTION United members and parents after students were told last week that some of their classes have been canceled because there aren’t enough certified teachers.

According to a news release, students only have a couple classes per day and have been told they’re free to leave them. Canceled classes mean the students are short on the credits they need to graduate.

“It is unconscionable that the School District is not providing even a base line of public education for its students,” ACTION United member Pastor William McLaurin says. “This School Board and School District is, with complete disregard, throwing away the future of these students and they should be held accountable.”

ACTION United will hold a 10:30 a.m. press conference and will rally until 1:45 p.m.
