Bridge case defendants can subpoena Christie office docs
The two former allies of Gov. Chris Christie charged in the George Washington Bridge lane-closing case will get a chance to force the release of documents from the law firm whose 2014 report absolved Christie from blame.
Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly are accused of orchestrating the lane closures in September 2013 to punish a mayor for not endorsing Christie’s re-election.
Their trial is scheduled for mid-May.
Kelly was Christie’s deputy chief of staff and Baroni was a top appointee to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
On Friday, a judge allowed their attorneys to subpoena documents from the Gibson Dunn law firm that include communications from Christie staffers during the lane closures.
Christie, who hasn’t been charged, is in New Hampshire seeking the Republican presidential nomination.
