Barricaded man fires on officers, kills self, Philly police say

Police say a suspect barricaded inside a Philadelphia home is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after officers dodged bullets during a five-hour standoff that included a temporary halt to SEPTA’s Norristown-Manayunk line.

Police didn’t identify the suspect in the standoff that began before dawn Saturday. Officers responded to a report of an armed man barricaded inside a River Road home along the Schuylkill River.

Arriving officers were fired on by the man before he apparently killed himself. No officers were reported injured.

Police shut down River Road and ordered residents to stay inside homes.
