Bad check ends Republican’s mayoral campaign

Looks like whichever Democrat wins Tuesday’s primary in the race to be Wilmington’s next mayor, is it.

The Dept. of Elections for New Castle County issued a news release Thursday, stating it has removed Republican mayoral candidate, Kevin Melloy, from the ticket.

“The Department regrets having to take this action, but Mr. Melloy’s check tendered for the filing fee was returned because of insufficient funds and he has failed to rectify the situation,” said Anthony Albence, Dir. of the NCCo’s Dept. of Elections.

Calls to Melloy were not returned, but his Facebook page shows a picture of Melloy captioned with “No Longer GOP Mayor Candidate.” Farther up the page, a status update reads, “I look forward to continue to work as a community activist and focus on my real estate and art career here in DE and Puerto Rico.” A couple hours later, he posted, “Oh well, I gave it my all!”
