August 3rd – 10th: Close Encounters, floral arranging, genealogy, and NewFound Road

Under the Stars Rooftop Movie Series: Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) is an electrical lineman who, while sent out on emergency repairs, witnesses an unidentified flying object. Neary’s wife and children are at first skeptical, then concerned, and eventually fearful, as Roy refuses to accept a “logical” explanation for what he saw and is prepared to give up his job, his home, and his family to pursue the “truth” about UFOs. ShopRite Parking Deck (Christina Crossing), August 7th, 7:30 P.M.

Floral Arranging Workshop: Fresh from the Kitchen

  • WHYY thanks our sponsors — become a WHYY sponsor

Take a break from the heat for this refreshing floral design workshop.  Inspiration comes from the kitchen by combining fresh vegetables and herbs with summer flowers to cook up a unique floral arrangement, perfect to adorn your dinner table or summer picnic!  All make-and-take materials included. Delaware Center for Horticulture, August 8th, 5:30 P.M.

Genealogy Series: Finding and Using Church Records

Church records such as baptism, marriage, death and interment records, and church membership information can provide some of the earliest genealogical information available. Most importantly, these sources can fill in the blanks of vital records long before state governments required registration of these events. This workshop will demonstrate how to use these records while conducting family research. Delaware Public Archives, August 4th, 10:30 A.M.

NewFound Road

A bluegrass band with a large dose of gospel thrown in, NewFound Road formed on the 4th of July in 2001, and decided at the start to keep a traditional acoustic bluegrass sound anchored by strong vocal harmonies.  You will tap your feet and slap your knee to the soulful sounds of this talented group of young bluegrass musicians. The Freeman Stage at Bayside, August 9th, 7 P.M.
