Atlantic City sets ‘Board Walk’ to show the world-famous promenade survived Sandy

On Sunday in Atlantic City, there will be a walk on the boardwalk … to prove it’s still there.

Even though people saw sections of their boardwalk washed away during Superstorm Sandy, it was at the far end of the island, says Don Marrandino of the Atlantic City Alliance.

It was a good thing.

“That part of the boardwalk was in the north section of town that was due for demolition in several months,” he said. “It actually saved $400,000 taking the darn thing apart.

“But the boardwalk from the Revel to Atlantic Club and in Ventnor, where I live, there’s nothing wrong. In fact, the next day I rode my bike 10 miles on the boardwalk like I do every morning and didn’t see one piece of wood out of whack.”

So Marrandino says the city decided to prove to the world everything is OK in the seaside casino resort.

“We’re having the ‘Board Walk,’ to prove that the boardwalk is in great shape,” he said. “We’re going to start at the Atlantic Club at noon, and walk down to Revel and I suspect we’ll have a few cocktails along the way.”

The Atlantic Club is the former Hilton at the south end of the city.
