Archdiocese of Philadelphia closing 4 church buildings
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia is closing two church buildings in the city and two more in its suburbs.
The archdiocese says St. Augustine’s in Bridgeport and the original Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in West Grove are the suburban churches that will no longer serve as places of worship.
The Philadelphia churches are St. Therese of the Child Jesus and St. Madeline Sophie.
The closings will become effective on Jan. 11.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that St. Augustine’s Church was closed a year ago due to mold issues.
The archdiocese says Assumption was closed two years ago due to safety reasons, and that maintenance costs were too expensive at St. Therese of the Child Jesus and St. Madeleine Sophie.
