EXPERIENCE: The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller

Friday, April 4. 7pm – 8pm & 9pm – 10pm. FringeArts, 140 N. Columbus Boulevard. The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller is a new “live documentary” that traces the career of twentieth-century futurist, architect, engineer, inventor and author R. Buckminster Fuller. Fuller was an early proponent of environmental stewardship who spoke about contemporary design and architecture’s potential to tackle sustainability, conservation and societal change. During the screening director Sam Green narrates the film in person while Yo a Tengo performs their original score. Cost: General admission $29, Students $20.

Saturday, April 5th. 2pm – 4pm. Pennypack Environmental Center, 8600 Verree Road AND Sunday, April 6th. 12pm – 2pm. West Oak Lane Library, 2000 Washington Lane. TreePhilly is officially back for the season. This Saturday and Sunday Philadelphians can stop by a designated pickup location to collect a free tree for front, back or side yards. Gardeners on hand will give away up to two free trees per property owner and will offer some tree tending advice. Trees will be given away next weekend as well. Free.

PERUSE: Fairmount Arts Crawl 10th Anniversary

Sunday, April 6. 2pm – 6pm. Fairmount Avenue, from 19th Street to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Ring in spring with the 10th annual Fairmount Arts Crawl. The sidewalks and more than 35 businesses, bars, shops and restaurants will host more than 70 pop-up art exhibits by local artists. Stroll the street, shop for local art, listen to live music, dance or take part in kids’ activities and live demonstrations. The festivities celebrate both local art and the neighborhood. Free.

BLOOM: Cherry Blossom Festival

Saturday, April 5 – Sunday April 6. Times and locations vary. Subaru kicked off the annual Cherry Blossom Festival earlier this week, but festivities run through April 13. This weekend, catch a performance by Tamagawa Taiko, a world-touring drum and dance group, at The Painted Bride. Pick from eight restaurants participating in Dine Out Japan restaurant week, or check out the Sakura preview at Barnes & Noble. On Sunday, Rittenhouse Square Barnes & Noble will host an afternoon of family activities including origami, calligraphy, go and shogi.
