Ackerman buyout in question

Now that Schools Superintendent of Philadelphia Arlene Ackerman is out, payment of private funds to her are in question.  Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner says he will review the buyout payment made to Ackerman, saying the use of anonymous private donors that made up about half of the money could be a problem.”That’s dangerous because you have no idea what is happening. You do not have transparency. You don’t know where the donations are coming from and, if so, what kind of contractual relationship. Whatever may exist, no one seems to know about and that what is frightening here in terms of this proposal,” he said.Zack Stalberg of The Committee of 70 agrees. “There may be some people who made donations to this fund expecting nothing back; but given the culture in this town, usually people expect a reward for their favor and they could be getting one in this case.”The mayor’s office declined to comment on the matter and added that the city’s chief integrity officer would not be available for comment.
