Authorities have closed a portion of Route 70 in Lakewood for an accident investigation Monday afternoon.

The Lakewood Scoop reports that an elderly pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle on the highway near Buckingham Drive shortly before 2 p.m.

Local and county investigative resources are on the scene.

The police investigation involves both the westbound and eastbound lanes west of the Garden State Parkway, forcing a full closure, according to 511nj.org.

At 2:23 p.m., JSHN contributor Nicolas Fuller reported that traffic was backed up “at least a couple miles” and “not moving” in the eastbound lanes near the accident site.

A detour is rerouting vehicles away from the closed lanes.

No additional details were immediately available.
