A chance to dance on the Falls Bridge
A new signature event is bringing some old world charm and new age class to the East Falls neighborhood.
It’s a party on the bridge.
The setting is the Falls Bridge, a striking, historic landmark in East Falls nestled between Kelly Drive and West River Drive.
The East Falls Development Corporation recently lit the portal on the entrance from the East Falls side, establishing the bridge’s role as a gateway into the community.
Now, the group intends to celebrate life along the Schuylkill River on that gateway with a night of live music, dancing and food on Sept. 10 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Dance Philadelphia, a group out of the University City Arts League, will act as live entertainment as well as lead the group in dance.
Tickets are $30 before Aug. 31 and $35 at the door. Proceeds will be donated to the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education. The Schuylkill river defines the neighborhood, and links it to its neighbors and Center City.
Noemi Armstrong, Administrative Assistant Project Manager for the East Falls Development Corporation says “Not everyone knows East Falls as a neighborhood. We often get defined by being next to Manayunk or by the big red pepper over Johnny Manana’s restaurant. We want to establish ourselves as a gateway to the trails on the Schuylkill and Wissahickon.”
Catered by The Café at the Mills, the palate will be heavy on desserts, wine, cheese, and fruit. The silent auction to benefit The Schuylkill Center features a couture dress, river-themed artwork, and a Morton’s Steakhouse dinner.
