Nutter to take oath, then party

Mayor Michael Nutter will be sworn in to a second term of office Monday. And then he will celebrate the beginning of that second term at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Following Philadelphia tradition, the mayor will make his oath during a special session of City Council at the Academy of Music. Richard Hayden, of the Nutter Inaugural Committee, said the party afterward will showcase the convention center expansion.

“He wants to highlight the kinds of activities and the kinds of events you can have there and really promote the North Broad Street entrance to the convention center,” Hayden said. “We expect a thousand people to attend.”

Hayden says Nutter’s first inaugural celebration was held at the Naval Business Center . It was open to the public and about 3,600 people attended. This event is invitation only.

“In lieu of asking people to pay for tickets, we’ve asked people to contribute to the not-for-profit that supports the mayor’s Philly Goes to College initiative, so that is the beneficiary of the event,” Hayden said.

Guests will be treated to Philly-brewed Yards beer and Blue Coat gin and vodka in addition to food from city restaurants. ?uestlove will be the evening’s entertainment.
