Valentines Day sweep nets 22 fugitives In Philadelphia

Almost two dozen fugitives were arrested overnight in Philadelphia as part of a sweep.

The 22 arrested were fugitives wanted for a variety of issues including domestic abuse and failure to pay child support says Sheriff Jewell Williams.

“They are the ones who are hiding, they are the ones who are running from police they are the ones who are selling the drugs, they are the ones who have to rob and murder to survive,” said Williams.  “What we did today is save many lives in the city of Philadelphia.”

Some of the fugitives were wanted outside the city and Sheriff Williams says he received assistance from neighboring counties.

“We execute warrants, and because we execute warrants, we want to make sure we play our part in making Philadelphia safe as well as the counties around us,” said Williams.

Philadelphia still has about 3,000 fugitives, wanted for both violent and non-violent crimes.
