What’s in a beard?
ListenGuests: Nick Burns, Jeff Langum and Mike Monroe
The chin strap, the Van Winkle or the basic short boxed. Beards are in! Press secretary Jay Carney took some heat from the D.C. Press Corps a few weeks ago for sporting a new, post-vacation beard. Home from an Arctic trek, Prince Harry was ordered by his grandmother the Queen to shave his new growth. Then there is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck whose mangy whiskers earned him almost as much fame as his comeback playoff win over the Kansas City. So, in this hour of Radio Times, we’re asking “what’s in a beard?” Why do some men grow them, what do beards say about the wearer and what’s the best way to groom them? Our guests include writer NICK BURNS, co-author of The Bearded Gentleman, JEFF LANGUM, winner of the 2013 World’s Best Beard competition for his natural full beard, and local barber MIKE MONROE who cuts the “Philly beard.”
