Vali Nasr: Dispensable Nation

Listen

Guest: Vali Nasr

Middle East scholar VALI NASR knows President Obama’s foreign policy inside and out.  From 2009 to 2011, Nasr was a senior adviser to Ambassador Richard Holbrooke and worked closely with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He was present during some of the key decisions about Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan.  Now he’s written a book critiquing the Obama administration’s foreign policy direction which, he argues, has increasingly moved away from a position of global leadership toward disengagement, particularly with the Islamic world.  Nasr, now dean of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, comes into the studio to talk to Marty about his new book, “The Dispensable Nation: American Foreign Policy in Retreat.”
