With a week left before Pennsylvania voters can choose candidates in the Republican and Democratic primary elections, we take stock of how a few select campaigns have played out in other parts of the commonwealth. We’ll examine the Republican race to challenge Democratic Sen. Bob Casey in November, with manufacturing executive and veteran’s advocate David Christian, former state Rep. Sam Rohrer, lawyer Marc Scaringi, retired coal businessman Tom Smith, and entrepreneur Steve Welch vying for the nod. We’ll check in on the contest for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General, with former U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy and former Lackawanna County assistant district attorney Kathleen Kane competing. And finally, we’ll examine the race for the Republican nomination to challenge President Barack Obama in November’s election, which was contested until last week between former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, as well as Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul, though Romney’s march to the general election now seems assured.
