The Pennsylvania state budget and tax increases

    In an effort to close an estimated $3.2 billion deficit, Governor Ed Rendell last week proposed increasing the Commonwealth’s personal income tax. Opponents of the proposal say lawmakers can slash spending even more and that a tax increase will result in loss of jobs. Supporters say without an increase we face devastating cuts in education, health care and services for the most vulnerable.
