The Leonids Streak the Sky this Week
This week keep an eye out for the Leonid meteor shower, the best known of the fall meteor showers. The Leonids have a good reputation because years ago there was a Leonid storm that made this fall meteor shower somewhat famous. The truth is that the Leonids generally don’t have a high hourly rate, only 15 per hour. The shower will run between Wednesday and Friday and the late phase moon will keep the sky fairly bright. While your looking at the moon you might also check out Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Saturn, or Mars, all burning bright at different times of the night. All this and more on this week’s Sky Talk.[audio: st20111114.mp3]
