The crisis of postpartum depression

Listen

No woman expects to suffer the physical and emotional devastation of postpartum depression or PPD. Expectant mothers are more inclined to imagine the time after childbirth to be one of the highlights of their lives.

Dr. Dan Gottlieb talks with author Karen Kleiman, MSW, LCSW. The new edition of her book This Isn’t What I Expected (co-written with Valerie Davis Raskin, MD) describes postpartum emotional problems and their treatment. We’ll also hear from two mothers who’ll share their personal stories of depression and anxiety experienced around the births of their children.

Karen Kleiman is an international expert on postpartum depression. She’s the founder of The Postpartum Stress Center, LLC, a treatment and training facility for prenatal and postpartum depression/anxiety disorders where she treats individuals and couples experiencing perinatal mood/anxiety disorders.
