Seeing all the way around the sun

Our sun is now available for viewing like never before. We now have the capability to see almost entirely around the sun at once and to watch any processes that occur on the surface. The satellites that make this possible are stereo satellites, one ahead of the earth in orbit and one behind. This provides the view and if we go to the stereo website we can actually see this kind of varying sun spot activity. Coronal mass ejections, as they come towards earth, can effect radio transmissions and create other disturbances. Also, don’t miss what’s in the night sky this week. All this and more on this week’s Sky Talk.[audio: st20110228.mp3]
