Romance novels — love stories and happy endings

Guests: Grace Burrowes, Mariah Stewart and Dena Heilik

Romance novels are big sellers. They account for $1.4 billion dollars in sales each year and are voraciously consumed by woman (and some men) of all ages. It’s a diverse genre that includes historical and contemporary novels, super-natural and suspense novels, inspirational and multicultural novels, and even erotica. As different as the settings are, they all have one thing in common – a couple in love and a story with a happy ending (or the probability of a happy ending). Since its Valentine’s Day, we’ve invited two best-selling romance writers to join us — GRACE BURROWES and MARIAH STEWART — to talk about their work. We’ll also hear from DENA HEILIK, head of the Fiction Department at the Central Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, who is a fan of the genre.
