Radio Times in Review: about Iran

Listen 00:48:45

Guests: Azar Nafisi, Sarah Shourd, Joshua Fattal, Shane Bauer

On today’s show, we’ll hear several stories about Iran. The country has been in the news lately as the landmark nuclear agreement went in to effect last weekend, and because of the high-profile prisoner swap with the US. First, we’ll hear from Iranian author AZAR NAFISI about the role that American literature played in changing her life. We’ll also listen to Marty’s interview with three American Hikers – SARAH SHOURD, JOSHUA FATTAL and SHANE BAUER – who were arrested by Iranian officers and held captive at Evin Prison – the same facility that Jason Rezian and the other American prisoners were held. Finally, we’ll hear the history of the US’s role in shaping Iran when we listen to Marty’s interview with veteran New York Times correspondent STEPHEN KINZER about his book All the Shah’s Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror.
