Race and politics

    Listen 00:48:46

Guests: Beth Reinhard, James Peterson, Calvin Tucker

Donald Trump is polling in the single digits among black voters.  In recent weeks he has been attempting to correct his low numbers by reaching out to the African American community.  The Clinton campaign has responded to these efforts with a speech, and an ad reminding voters of previous comments made by Trump on race and by linking him to the alt-right.  The “alt-right” is an internet-based faction of the far-right, who decry political correctness, and sometimes veer into white supremacist, anti-Semitic and racist ideology.  This hour, race and racism in the Presidential election.  We start this hour with BETH REINHARD, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal who covers national politics and the 2016 presidential campaign. Then we turn to JAMES PETERSON, director of Africana studies and associate professor of English at Lehigh University and CALVIN TUCKER, chairman of the Pennsylvania Black Republican Council.
