Our microbiome and our health

Listen 00:48:45

Guests: Gary Wu, Tracy Bale, Frederic Bushman

Our bodies are home to trillions of bacteria and fungi. Together they make up our microbiome and we’re just beginning to understand the critical role they play in our health.  Researchers now believe our “body bugs” influence autoimmune diseases, allergies, obesity, mental health and more. This hour, Marty talks with three scientists about how our microbes effect our wellbeing. Our guests are GARY WU, professor in gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, TRACY BALE, professor of neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and FREDERIC BUSHMAN, professor and chair of the microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.
