[From the Radio Times archive] As Jeb Bush’s campaign limps along to continue the family dynasty, there’s a new biography of George H. W. Bush out, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush by presidential historian JON MEACHAM. Meacham was given unprecedented access to Bush senior’s family and friends, his audio diaries, as well as those of Barbara Bush. The book traces 41st president’s life — his privileged childhood, his naval service, and his years as UN ambassador, head of the CIA, vice president, and president. The book also contains George H.W. Bush’s criticism of his son’s presidency, particularly his hawkish advisers Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld. Marty spoke with Meacham about the former president, his life, and his legacy last November.
