Is There Really a Man in the Moon?

If the moon rotates and the earth rotates why do we see that man in the moon face? It keeps the same face toward us because as it rotates, it also revolves around us. What about the topography of the moon? Are all sides the same? We can use the topography to help us tell the age of the moon. When we look at the side we typically see from earth we see the broad, smooth, flat, gray areas, which are the younger portions, but there are also bright white portions of the moon that are much rougher. These are the older portions of the moon. Also, don’t miss what’s in the night sky this week. All this and more on this week’s Sky Talk.[audio: st20110523.mp3]
