Last month, top military leaders privately warned that continuing the war with Iran was unsustainable. And yet, six months out from the start of the conflict, there’s no end yet in sight. Gas prices rose to a six-week high over the holiday weekend, and costs at the pump might soon be compounded by a trade war with Canada.

As pivotal midterm elections approach, President Trump’s approval ratings are at record lows and members of his own party appear frustrated. Some battleground Republicans say they don’t want the president campaigning in their districts. Some are conspicuously missing his midterm convention in Texas this week.

Meanwhile, the rise of democratic socialist candidates in some primary elections are raising questions about the future of the democratic party.

So today on the show: what issues might sway voters come November? How are Republicans and Democrats grappling with the trends within their parties? We’re sitting down with two columnists on either side of the aisle to talk about all the major political headlines.
