Welcome to this special edition of First. First Experience has taken us to some great places this year, we are going to show you some of our favorites this week. To get you in the mood for the holidays, we are coming to you from the beautiful Hotel du Pont.
For my favorite First Experiences pieces, I’ve stumbled into a transportation theme of sorts. First up, a look at backyard miniature trains in Delaware that reminds me of the old train tables we used to set up when I was a kid, except these are on a much grander scale. Next, we visit the skate ramps at Glasgow Park. The park is a favorite place to visit for our family, and we love watching the skaters making crazy moves. Last, but not least, I’ve selected the Experience focused on the highly skilled River Pilots who help maneuver giant cargo ships up the Delaware Bay.
I love miniature anything, even my handwriting is miniature. But besides being tiny, I was amazed by the detail and the skill of the artists whose work was displayed on mini canvases. My family and I spent a week in Lewes and we indulged in many ice cream cones from King’s. Not only was the ice cream amazing, but watching the story brings back a lot of great memories. Huge fan of the butter pecan by the way. Lastly, a self-proclaimed dog person, I think dogs and animals in general bring so much joy. ‘Tis the season, no?
As someone who has always had a love for theatrical performances as well as arts and crafts, my favorite “First Experiences” cater to some of my interests outside of work. My number one pick introduces you to Wilmington’s only comedy improv group which I love because of the high-energy. Next, you’ll meet Nancy Pia who uses her imagination to create unique pieces of art, something I tend to do whenever I stumble across old things. Finally, we travel to Delaware City to learn about the traditional art of blacksmithing, and believe it or not, I wouldn’t mind taking a class to tackle that craft.
