Port Impact

As Delaware works to rebuild its blue collar work base, there’s one place that’s been a source of those jobs for 90 years, the Port of Wilmington. There is some concern whether that can go on as strongly as in the past. In this week’s First Look, we visit the port to see it’s impact on the State and what the future holds after a tumultuous year.

Sen. Carper talks healthcare

Senator Tom Carper was in our First studio last month. Nichelle sat down with him, and the conversation turned to the aftermath of the Affordable Care Act. He talked about why things got so political and what we do going forward.

Hoarding

Delaware is bringing together firefighters, housing code enforcement officials, and health professionals like Christina Care Psychologist Alan Schwartz. It’s part of a task force to help people whose impulse to collect, crosses the line. Some of the images in this report are a bit disturbing.

First Experience: ASL poetry

Poetry can tell a story through prose filled with rhymes, rhythm or even emotion. This week, First Experience introduces you to another form. It’s American Sign Language Poetry turning the spoken and written word into a visual one. Here are 3 poems, done at the Delaware School for the Deaf in Newark. They were each chosen winners in a school poetry contest. Check out this unique experience.
